“Life”

The older I get the more I’ve noticed that there’s a battle between faith and “life not turning out the way you thought it would”.

So much of our faith was a mixture of belief in God and belief in our version of what He would do for us.

So as life unfolds sometimes we battle with the space between our dreams and our reality and the temptation is to blame God for the discrepancy.

People get sick, people get in accidents, children are born with disabilities, sometimes children are never born. People divorce, people come out of the closet as gay, people get downsized, people lose their pensions…

Things happen. The one you loved married someone else. The one you married gets on your nerves. Sometimes it can feel like life didn’t give you anything that you asked for.

Well, if you’re waiting for the silver lining… If you’re waiting for me to resolve this emotional tension then you’ve obviously not lived for very long. There is no resolution. It just is what it is. But in the midst of life’s inevitable ups and downs there is an incredible opportunity to become more and more intimate with Jesus. Through every victory and every painful loss, Jesus is there.

The goal of life is not to rack up victorious circumstances in a world that’s fading away; no, the goal of life is to rack up glorious memories of how amazing and consistent God’s love has been through it all.
