“Everybody doesn’t get a trophy.”
You know what I can’t stand? A participation trophy. That’s gotta be the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard of. Do you know what that says to a kid?
“You weren’t first place, second or third. You weren’t the most improved or the most valuable player. You didn’t even have the best sportsmanship. Your play was so subpar that there was absolutely nothing that we could reward you for. But here’s a trophy to remind you that you were here…and you sucked.”
But what’s even worse is that the concept of “rewarding mediocrity and failure” has even crept it’s way into the church.
You’re not loving, you’re not forgiving, you’re not serving in any ministry and you’re not even tithing! But you want the church to host your (unwed) baby shower, bury your (unsaved) loved ones and find ways to be positive about your ungodly lifestyle. And the sad thing is that a lot of churches are doing it. And they are setting you up for failure.
What are you going to do when you stand before Jesus? (A guy who’s never heard of the term “social promotion) What are you going to do when He actually holds you accountable for your behavior?
In Matthew 7:21-24 Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
If no one has ever told you, let me be the first:
Yes, God loves you. Yes God wants the best for you. But God also demands the best FROM you. Ask Cain if God accepts sloppy worship….
It’s time to stop playing. The world needs Christians who actually look like Christ. Are you a part of the solution or the problem?

I just had this conversation the other day with my Pastor Rev. Barbour and her husband, Rodney Barbour. Dude you be WAY in the spirit 🙂
Good message. I see you mentioned the unwed baby shower at church. I know I’m far from perfect, and I try not to judge, but I remember not too long ago someone at a church that I’ve been to a few services at having an unwed baby shower. In my mind I was wondering when did churches start doing that. I’m often told in certain ways I’m old fashioned. But no matter how much of a sinner I am (and yes, I know we all are), I just feel like certain things the church should not entertain. Something else that bothers me in the church is allowing people to hold positions such as choir directors, etc and the only come to church on the Sunday that their choir sings. My attendance has been building up, and the church has been delegating me to do certain things, but certain positions if offered, I wouldn’t dare take, just because they asked.
I’m I wasn’t planning on commenting, but I really wanted to know where to find today’s topic….I saw the title and really wanted to read that!!!
Ask Cain if God accepts sloppy worship….
Nothing more needs to be said.
